Located in historic Over-the-Rhine Cincinnati, this renovation of a 1910 concrete & masonry auto showroom houses a corporate office on the ground floor and an architecture firm above. Existing historical exterior storefront terra-cotta were restored in accordance with Federal Historic Preservation Guidelines and serve as initial context for the modern interior intervention.
On the ground floor, four existing bays of the original storefront transform into ribbons which wrap program space of private offices, conference rooms and the large training space from front to back becoming floor, walls and ceiling. Additionally, services are collected as vertical tubes enclosing the plumbing, restroom, kitchen and circulation which puncture through to the second floor which is an open-studio architecture office. Existing skylights were renovated to provide northern light and divide the space into project areas. Michael McInturf Architects functioned as design-builder for the project, with the formation of the contracting company Assemblage.
I participated on this project on all levels, including design, materials research, construction documents, construction management, and general contracting (design/build).
