Recent interest in Cartography by laity and professionals has increased worldwide helped, in part, by the ubiquitous and easy online tools such as Google Maps & Google Earth. My interest in cartography, and mapping in general, are both explanatory and political; using maps to explain personal history, begins to add legitimacy and power to my history, transferring maps inherent authority to my life story. Mapping also serves as a historical record of travel to be shared with friends and family.
